Users in the US can now call 1-800-CHATGPT to have voice conversations with the AI assistant and will receive 15 minutes of free calls each month.

Besides, the WhatsApp integration also allows international users to message ChatGPT, although there are some feature limitations compared to the main app.

The WhatsApp version operates on a lighter model and has daily usage limits, while promising future upgrades such as image analysis.

Although the era of switchboard operators and hotlines has passed, OpenAI’s latest move brings that service style back to the AI age in an accessible way. By reaching users on platforms they frequently use—whether it’s WhatsApp or a landline—OpenAI is expanding AI’s reach beyond tech-savvy individuals.

GitHub, owned by Microsoft, has just launched a free tier for its AI programming tool, Copilot, integrated directly into the VS Code editor. This is a major step in democratizing AI programming, while also celebrating the milestone of 150 million developers on the GitHub platform.

The new free tier offers:

• 2,000 code completions per month

• 50 chat messages

These features are directly integrated into VS Code and the GitHub dashboard, making them easily accessible to users without needing to upgrade to a paid plan.

Users can choose to use AI models like Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet or OpenAI’s GPT-4o. However, more advanced models like o1 and Gemini 1.5 Pro are still only available for paid plans.

Free features include:

• Recognizing the entire project’s context to provide more accurate AI suggestions

In addition, GitHub has reached the milestone of 150 million developers, up from 100 million in early 2023, demonstrating the platform’s strong growth.

Google DeepMind has announced a strategic partnership with Apptronik, an Austin-based humanoid robotics company. The goal of this collaboration is to combine Google DeepMind’s advanced AI with Apptronik’s cutting-edge hardware to develop versatile humanoid robots.

Partnership Details:

• Apptronik has nearly a decade of experience in robotics, including developing the Valkyrie robot for NASA and their current humanoid robot, Apollo.

• Apollo stands at 5’8″ (approximately 173 cm), weighs 160 pounds (approximately 73 kg), and is designed to perform industrial tasks while ensuring safe collaboration with humans.

• This partnership will leverage Google DeepMind’s AI expertise, including Gemini models, to enhance the robots’ operational capabilities in real-world environments.

• This marks Google’s return to the humanoid robot field after selling Boston Dynamics to SoftBank in 2017, this time through AI application rather than solely focusing on hardware.

Seven years after selling Boston Dynamics, Google is reaffirming its position in the humanoid robot field through its partnership with Apptronik. Instead of just developing hardware, Google DeepMind is utilizing the power of AI to bring significant advancements to humanoid robots.

This partnership not only gives advanced AI models like Gemini a physical form but also brings us closer to having practical humanoid robots capable of working alongside humans effectively and safely.
